1. Citation
This Notice may be cited as the Inquests (Qualifications for Appointment as Coroner) Notice.
2. Qualified persons
For the purposes of the Inquests Act, a person shall be qualified for appointment to the office of Coroner who–
(a) is a person in retirement who formerly served as a magistrate of any description or grade;
(b) is a person in retirement who formerly served as a police officer in rank not lower than Inspector of Police;
(c) is a person in retirement who formerly served as an administrative officer of any rank in the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania;
(d) is a retired public officer of any other description who, in the opinion of the Minister, is capable of discharging the functions of the office of Coroner and is well respected within the area of his domicile;
(e) is a public officer who, in the opinion of the Minister, has the ability to enable him to discharge the functions of a Coroner.

(Section 3)

G.N. No. 71 of 1984
1. Citation
This Order may be cited as the Inquests (Establishment of Coroners' Courts) Order, and shall come into operation on the first day of July.
2. District Coroner's Court
There is hereby established in respect of each district in which there is established a district council one Coroner's Court which shall be known as the Coroner's Court for each such district.
3. Municipal Coroner's Court
There is hereby established in respect of each urban area in which there is established a municipal council or a city council one Coroner's Court which shall be known as the Coroner's Court for each such municipality or, as the case may be, such city.
4. Exercise of functions
Each Coroner's Court established by this Order shall exercise its functions in accordance with the provisions of the Inquests Act *.
REGULATIONS
(Section 34)
G.N. No. 129 of 1984
1. Citation
These Regulations may be cited as the Inquests (Expenses and Fees) Regulations.
2. Payment of Coroners
Nothing in these Regulations shall apply in respect of any payment for the services of Coroners.
3. Payment of winesses
Every person summoned to attend as a witness in proceedings before a Coroners' Court shall be entitled to be paid his travelling expenses and allowances for accommodation and subsistence in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Proceedings (Expenses of Assessors and Witnesses) Rules *.
4. Payment of medical practitioners
A medical practitioner, other than a Government Medical Officer, having duties to perform in respect of matters under the Inquests Act, other than the adduction of evidence at an inquest, shall be paid fees 1 for the following items:
(a) carrying out an external inspection on the order of a Coroner or a police officer;
(b) carrying out a complete postmortem examination;
(c) superintending exhumation of body.
5. Fees include making of report
The fees specified in paragraph 4 shall include the making of a prescribed report to the Coroner arising from the carrying out of the duty in question.
6. Fee for copy of documents
Every person applying for a copy of the following documents, that is to say–
(a) report of post-mortem examination; or
(b) a copy of depositions taken by a Coroner at any inquest; or
(c) a copy of any document put and received in evidence at any inquest,
shall pay a fee 2.

1. Citation
These Regulations may be cited as the Inquests (Coroners' Remuneration) Regulations.
2. Fees and allowances
Every coroner, other than a magistrate, shall, when attending to business connected with proceedings in a coroner's court be entitled to be paid his travelling expenses and allowances for accommodation in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Proceedings (Expenses of Assessors and Witnesses) Rules *.
3. Professional fee
In addition to fees and allowances payable under paragraph 2, a Coroner shall be paid a fee of one hundred shillings in respect of each inquest which he conducts and concludes in accordance with the provisions of the Inquests Act. {/mprestriction}
